After a year of getting the site prepped for construction, the Brown County South Landfill is in full building mode. The 26-acre cell has been dug out and crews are currently installing the clay and synthetic liner. The clay and synthetic liner go through hundreds of tests to ensure proper clay compaction and synthetic liner seam sealing during construction. Crews are working on the construction of a residential drop off area and the scale house. The scale house will include two in-bound scales and routine trucks visiting the landfill will be equipped with an RFID tag unique to each vehicle. Construction of a 160,000-gallon leachate tank is also underway. The South Landfill in on budget and on task to be ready to open in January 2022.
